PFW Password - Fall 2007 While they might be known as The Down-To-Earth Equipment People™, that doesn’t mean that JESCO, Inc., a construction and industrial equipment Dealer with three locations in New Jersey, doesn’t know a thing or two about high technology. “Over the last five years, technology has made a major impact on our business. Equipment has become faster and lighter. Better cell coverage and the introduction of wireless air cards have helped us to keep in contact with our employees better than ever. The introduction of PFW’s IntelliDealer and the apps that go with it has allowed us to increase our productivity while decreasing our overhead,” says Cris Robustelli, Manager of Information Systems at JESCO.
While Robustelli and the team at JESCO have their eye on several new technologies – including an IBM BladeCenter and a fax-to-e-mail system – to further increase efficiency, the technology they rely on most on a day-to-day basis is wireless. Whether it is to help the sales team stay in touch in the field, connect staff to the server at their head office in South Plainfield or help make inventory easier and more accurate, wireless is a big part of how JESCO does business.
“As far as sales are concerned, using Wireless Wide Area Network (WWAN) cards in the field has given us several advantages. Our salespeople no longer need to come into the office for things such as paperwork, quotes or literature. They can also e-mail or instant message (IM) questions that don’t require immediate attention. With the traffic in New Jersey, this allows our salespeople to be out with the customer instead of back at the office,” continues Robustelli.
Four years ago, JESCO – which stands for Jersey Equipment Sales Company – implemented PFW’s wireless Parts Inventory Control application to help make the inventory and billing process faster and more efficient.
“The use of wireless in the Parts Department has been great. Locating parts can now be done fast and in real-time. Inventory counts can now be done during business hours with no problems. Checking in-stock orders has become streamlined. Parts being returned from a road call can now be done with a wireless device as well. All of these things help our service team get their billing done faster,” says Robustelli.
